Vacancy Description

To serve customers, prepare food and drinks, wash and clear up whilst maintaining a professional presentation of the café. This role requires flexibility and resilience as a part of the team in the busy Charleston Café.

Main duties and responsibilities:

·         To create and maintain a friendly, welcoming atmosphere for visitors
·         To use the till on a daily basis
·         To use the barista machine
·         To clear tables and wash up
·         To ensure the café is cleaned, swept and tidy, and fully stocked
·         To assist with stock management
·         To ensure that Food Health and Safety standards and procedures are adhered to at all times.
·         To attend all health and safety training courses as required
·         To ensure that all customers are given a warm welcome, prompt and efficient service and that expectations are consistently exceeded
·         To ensure the highest standards of food preparation and presentation are maintained
·         To prepare and cook food for the café and assist in any additional Trust functions such as events, workshops and meetings as requested by the Catering and Hospitality Manager
·         To assist with the catering operation during Charleston’s May Festival and short story festival, Small Wonder, in September
Skills / Qualifications required & any further information

Person Specification:

·         Excellent Customer service skills and experience
·         Experience of using a till/cash handling

·         Food Hygiene qualification
·         Barista trained
·         Food preparation experience
·         Previous experience of working in a busy café

·         Able to work as part of a team as well as on own initiative
·         Smart and presentable at all times
·         Passion for food
·         Passion for giving excellent customer service
·         Confident, lively and outgoing

Additional information:

Leave: The basic annual leave entitlement is 28 days (including bank holidays) pro-rata. NB. Only 5 consecutive days to be taken between April – October

Because of Charleston’s rural location the post holder must have the use of a car or a guaranteed way of getting to Charleston. Car sharing with Charleston staff may be a possibility depending on locations.
