NCS is an exciting personal development programme for 16 and 17 year olds which is rooted in social action and social mix. The programme includes 8 nights residential activity (outdoor adventure and local community based) and includes some classroom based but mainly off-site activity.

As NCS Youth Leader you will plan and deliver an NCS programme with the support of an Assistant Leader. You will be responsible for the whole team throughout the programme including whilst on residential. This will include motivating and empowering the team and taking responsibility for the health, safety and well-being of all young people from Induction, right the way through to Graduation

Medway Youth Trust will have various waves of teams going away in Summer 2017 with July and August start dates and candidates can apply to work on one or two waves (back to back delivery).
Skills / Qualifications required & any further information

Experience of working directly with young people from a wide variety of backgrounds
Experience and understanding of managing challenging behaviour and working with young people who have a range of needs
Experience of planning, delivering and evaluating activities for and with young people
Experience of working as part of a team
Knowledge of relevant youth policies, legislation and the wider youth agenda
Knowledge of the local community and voluntary agencies
Experience and understanding of Health & Safety, Safeguarding, Risk Assessment and data handling practices
An awareness and understanding of Equality & Diversity issues
Ability to lead, motivate and inspire young people to fulfil their potential
Ability to guide and support employed staff and volunteers and be a good role model
Strong problem solving skills and an ability to respond calmly and appropriately in emergency / difficult situations
Strong communication skills and an approachable manner
Good resilience and high energy levels
A positive ‘can do’ attitude
Strong organisational skills and ability to work on your own initiative and to an agreed action plan
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information in accordance to policy
Ability to use IT effectively
Ability to provide a professional service to include areas such as punctuality, creativity and flexibility
Ability to be flexible in working hours in order to deliver programme requirements
Ability to manage a small budget and petty cash
Good sense of humour, a willingness to get involved and have fun

Working Week / Hours

Working hours will generally be 8:45am – 5:15pm with the exception of the residential weeks and the Graduation evening and 8 night residential
Salary details

£2416 per wave, one wave is 6 weeks full time
