NCS is an exciting personal development programme for 16 and 17 year olds which is rooted in social action and social mix. The programme includes 8 nights residential activity (outdoor adventure and local community based) and includes some classroom based but mainly off-site activity.

As NCS Wave Youth Leader you will lead a wave of between 60 and 90 young people and between 8-12 staff through the Summer delivery of the NCS programme in the Lewes District or Medway (depending on the area you are choosing to apply for). The Wave Leader will be responsible for between 4 and 6 teams of 15 young people and the NCS Youth Leader and Assistant Youth Leader.

Medway Youth Trust will have various waves of teams going away in Summer 2017 with July and August start dates and candidates can apply to work on one or two waves (back to back delivery).
Skills / Qualifications required & any further information

Experience of working on the NCS Programme
Experience of working directly with young people from a variety of backgrounds
Experience of delivering a programme to 16 and 17 year olds- ideally in a residential setting
Experience of managing challenging behaviour
Understanding of safeguarding and health and safety processes- including a proven ability to complete risk assessments
An awareness and understanding of Equality & Diversity issues
Proven ability to work on own initiative
Proven ability to make difficult decisions under pressure
Experience of managing/coordinating staff or volunteers or a team of individuals
Experience of chairing staff briefings
Passionate about young people and community/social action projects
Ability to learn quickly and apply learning to the work environment
Good resilience and high energy levels
Ability to lead, motivate and inspire staff to support young people to fulfil their potential
Ability to communicate effectively, to lead and work as part of a team
Ability to work on your own initiative and to an agreed action plan
Ability to organise yours and others work effectively and in a timely manner
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information in accordance to policy
Ability to use IT effectively
Ability to provide a professional service to include areas such as punctuality, reliability, good communication, creativity, and flexibility

Working Week / Hours

Working hours will generally be 8:45am – 5:15pm with the exception of the residential weeks and the Graduation evening and 8 night residential

£2724 per wave (one wave is 6 weeks full time work
